More about Atlas Orthogonal (AO)
Many of our patients seek relief from chronic and debilitating pain in the head and neck resulting from the misalignment or imbalance of the spinal column. Our painless, non-invasive procedure has been shown to provide significant relief for headache and neck pain by realigning the structural integrity of the upper neck. When the spinal column is out of line, the body’s nervous system can become compromised. The source of this imbalance can often be traced to the Atlas vertebra – the top cervical bone in the neck, just at the base of the head.
Causes and Symptoms
The Atlas vertebra is responsible for the entire alignment of the spine, thus taking its name from the Greek mythological figure Atlas, who bore the weight of the world on his shoulders.
When properly aligned, the Atlas vertebra supports the weight of the head in the neutral – or 90-degree orthogonal – position. Through trauma, such as injury, physical stress and strain, this vitally important vertebra can be shifted from its optimum position.
Trauma to the Atlas vertebrae most commonly results from injury related to car accidents, slips and falls, a blow to the head, or a myriad of sports injuries – no matter how minor, or with no initial symptoms.
The subsequent pain is often the result of the body’s attempt to compensate for the misalignment of the vertebrae, thus causing nerve pressure and inflammation from the disintegration of structural integrity. The resulting damage can manifest itself through chronic pain in the head, neck, back, shoulders, and limbs.
Diagnosis and Treatment
We perform a thorough assessment of craniocervical symptoms through neurological examinations, precise imaging methods, and personalized consultation in order to determine if you will benefit from Atlas correction and realignment using our non-invasive, pain-free procedure.
By using a highly-advanced percussion-wave instrument, developed through years of clinical research and development, Dr. James is able to help our patients to reduce chronic pain by safely realigning the Atlas vertebrae.
If you are living with chronic pain, we encourage you to contact us for a private consultation in order to determine if the Atlas Orthogonal procedure is right for you. Seeking diagnosis and treatment early can be the key to preventing further damage – and to begin living a fuller life even sooner
